Inmarsat Procurement

Inmarsat is a satellite telecommunications company, and before they can build their satellites and send them into space, they need to buy all the parts - and to do that, the people in procurement need a good system to track purchase orders and invoices, and of course pay the suppliers!

Inmarsat's existing procurement system was more of a collection of email, Excel and disparate SAP apps. As part of Capgemini's SAP design team, I came in to help discover the procurement team's needs, see how we could create a solution that tied into their existing SAP systems, and design a frictionless procurement experience that we could then develop within SAP using SAP's UI5 framework.

Whilst the UI5 framework initially proved limiting in terms of visual design, it allowed us to rapidly design and iterate user journeys, whilst creating data-rich screens that were cohesive and familiar to the procurement team's users. Having this design system in place also allowed for rapid agile development, and kept the deliverable working app faithful to the designs.
