I joined fintech startup Crezco as their first design hire and Head of UX Design, initially solo before hiring and building a design team. Initial I focused on redesigning the payment experience and customer dashboards, however once they were all in a good place, we set about creating an entirely new product line - Payables, an accounts payable platform that could be used for small businesses to pay bills or staff - this was in contract to the initial Crezco accounts receivable payment experience that allowed users to request invoice payments via generated payment links.
Payables was one of the first Open Banking account-to-account payments platforms of its kind, so whilst we could analyse existing payroll payment solutions for a baseline, a ton of discover, ideation and product design was required to flesh out the key features and user journeys. The core of the platform was bill and staff payment, using the Crezco account-to-account payment experience to handle the payments in a quick and streamlined manner. This meant users could pay a bill through the platform in one click, or batch up a group of bills and pay them in a single transfer.
One of the biggest design challenges was handling pay runs containing split payments or multiple currencies - in this situation instead of just clicking to pay the bill, multiple payment links are created due to scenarios such as a bank's multiple payment limit or separating domestic from international transfers. This involved rigorous research and documentation to cover all of the potential paths, pending and end states, and how to communicate the various statuses to users.
